Introduction and General Instructions

Welcome to the ALT-Pathway Test site. Here you will find lessons designed to help you learn about Newton's laws. These lessons are being tested and refined. As you work through them note things that are troublesome and please provide us with feedback to help us improve the materials.

These lessons are based on the three stage learning cycles. In the first stage you will be asked to explore activities related to Newton's laws, and you should not worry too much about whether your answers are correct, but instead worry about whether your observations are useful for helping to figure out how things work. In the second stage we'll provide you with a brief reading to explain the purpose of the exploration activities and to help you connect your observations to the ideas you're trying to learn. In the third stage we'll ask you work through a few more activities which will help you apply what you've learned in the first two stages of the lesson. In this stage you should try to gauge whether your answers are correct, this is part of determining whether you really understand the material. If at any point something seems confusing there is a Question and Answer page which provides answers to common questions both about the physics content, as well as practical issues of measurement.

When you are ready to proceed follow the links on the navigation bar at left to work through each lesson.
