Rami Arieli: "The
Laser Adventure" CD Lab Page 1
Compact Disk as a reflection
grating
Explanations about CD can be found in Section
9.4.1.
This experiment was modified to fit a lower level high school (or
even some middle schools).
Objectives:
Part A
-
Using interference of He-Ne laser light (of a known wavelength) reflected
off a Compact Disk (CD), to find (verify) the distance (d) between
the grooves of the CD.
Part B
-
To use interference of laser light off a CD (of known groove separation)
to find the wavelength (l) of light from
a diode laser.
Advanced
-
To check the spectra of different light sources.
