Abstract:
|
To introduce science and
engineering students to quantum mechanics we have created a series of
Interactive Engagements ("In-Gagements") that combine effective
instructional elements from both Visual Quantum Mechanics (Kansas State
University), Quantum Tutorials (University of Maryland), and other
similar efforts. The In-Gagements integrated paper-and-pencil activities
with hands-on experiments and computer visualizations. Explorations with
inexpensive devices can motivate students with practical examples, while
the tutorial style of instruction guides them to construct conceptual
understanding of important concepts. The 17 In-Gagements that we have
completed are aimed at students who have completed a two-semester,
calculus-based physics course. |
