Abstract:
|
A growing trend is to create
interactive applications that can be accessed remotely by users over the
Web. New technologies, such as ActiveX have now appeared that provide
software developers with the means to integrate program modules and
create these web-based interactive applications. We will discuss some of
the advantages and disadvantages of using ActiveX for creating
interactive web-based physics materials. We will present examples of
ActiveX controls that we have developed and purchased, and demonstrate
how these can be used to create web-based applications for teaching
physics using Visual Basic or Java Script. We will also demonstrate some
controls used to make specific pedagogical applications created using
other developer's tools such as DemoShield or Macromedia Director
interactive over the web. Finally, we will compare ActiveX with some of
the other options that are available to developers of web-based
applications. |
