Consider a situation in which an electron encounters a foil of finite thickness as shown in Figure 4 below.
The potential energy diagram for an electron approaching the foil from the left in Figure 4 from the left will look like the sketch below:
Set up this potential energy diagram using the Quantum Tunneling program.
Click on Barrier Parameters and then on Right Level. Move the green cursor all the way to the left, so that the right level changes to 0.0eV. Set the barrier Height to 4.0 eV and the Width to 3.0 eV.
Vary the energy of the electron using the Particle Parameters tab. Select 5 electron energy values between 0-4 eV. Make sketches of the resulting wave function for each of these 5 energies.
Write a paragraph describing the probability of tunneling and its dependency on the electron energy. Use numerical values where possible.
