Rami Arieli: "The
Laser Adventure" Divergence Lab., Page 1
Measuring the Beam Divergence
of a Laser
Objectives:
-
To study one of the characteristics of a laser beam: Beam
divergence.
-
To compare the beam divergence of the Helium-Neon laser and Diode laser.
Advanced:
-
To learn a way to reduce beam divergence.
Equipment:
-
Diode Laser with
output power less than 1 [mW], with power supply (batteries).
-
Helium-Neon Laser
with output power less than 1 [mW].
-
Screen with millimeter paper on it.
-
Ruler and measuring tape for measuring distances.
-
Two converging lenses, one with a short focal length (f1) and,
another with a long focal length (f2).
